Indian export-quality chickpeas, encompassing both Kabuli and Desi varieties, adhere to specific standards to meet international requirements. Kabuli chickpeas are recognized for their larger size and lighter colour, while Desi chickpeas are smaller and darker. Specifications typically include maintaining moisture content below 12%, limiting foreign matter to less than 2%, and ensuring broken beans are below 3%. Chickpeas should exhibit uniform colour and appearance, free from defects. Packaging usually involves polypropylene bags of 25 kg, 50 kg, or customized as per buyer’s needs, with approximately 18 to 20 metric tons loaded in a 20-foot container, depending on packaging size and density. These specifications guarantee that Indian chickpeas satisfy standards for diverse applications, including human consumption and food processing.
